On Life’s Seasons

season: n. one of the four quarters into which the year is commonly divided; an indefinite period of time

The change took place as quickly and easily as the flipping of a switch. I awakened this morning to cool, crisp air. I had to turn on the lights in order to dispel the darkness. The atmosphere had a damp, quiet feel to it. Fall wasn’t just “in the air.” It arrived.

Summer is now in the rearview mirror.

On Storms and the Pilot

The woman seated next to me on the flight didn’t talk until we landed on the runway. Then she unloaded. “That pilot was horrible. The plane was rocking back and forth so bad I thought I was going to throw up.” Upon questioning her, I found she had only flown once before and that she also gets car sick.

I offered an explanation: “There are thunderstorms in the area, causing turbulence. My flight before this one was just as bad.”
